This little clumping perennial is most widely known in the West as garlic chives because the leaves and flowers taste like a mild garlic and are used in the same manner as chives. Its other common name, Chinese leek, reflects its origin and popularity in Chinese cuisine. Leaves are flat, like those of both garlic and leek. By whatever name it’s a lovely and useful permanent addition to the kitchen garden.
Garlic chives is also attractive to bees and other pollinators.
