This South American heirloom with the very North American name is a dependable heavy producer of great-tasting popcorn. Five-foot-tall plants carry 2-3 ears per stalk. Yellow kernels on 6” ears.
Popcorn needs to be very dry before it will pop properly. Leave ears on the plant until stalks dry if weather and varmints permit. Then shuck back the husks and hang the ears to dry more in a warm protected place.
