This heirloom, first presented to gullible gardeners in the 1800s as a true cross between citrus and cucumber, outlived the hype to remain a favorite today. Its 1.5-2.5” round ball fruits are ready to eat when they show the first hint of a yellow sunburst at each end. Sweet and flavorful, never bitter, with only trace amounts of cucurbitacin, the compound that can add a slightly bitter taste to other cucumbers. Adapted to short seasons and climate challenges.
