Licorice root is famous as a sweetener, being 50-70x sweeter than sugar. A perennial legume, the plant is a slow starter, but by its 2nd year makes a stand of 4-6’ stalks that return every spring for many years.
The root makes a great tea.

After soaking in water for a few hours and planting 1/2 below soil, I have %90+ germination within 3 days, some sooner. The stuff on the net tells us scarify, stratify, call a priest... None of that was necessary.
