A Victorian era favorite that is well worth rediscovery. Flowers crowd the stems in swirls of red and white all summer long. Great in containers, window boxes, or other view-up-close spots, as blooms can be partly hidden by the leaves. Two-foot-tall plants like heat, and are gone with the first frost.
All parts of the plant are edible, but it's the flowers you're likely to want to add to desserts or salads as decoration. (The leaves are more in the survival-food category, in my opinion. Not bad, but not memorable either.) Pick flowers shortly before use, as they do not hold up for long.
